Dear Neighbour,

I'm writing to you because I believe we are people who care deeply about the future of our City and Region. As a Waterloo citizen and ratepayer, I greatly value your opinion and advice.

I invite your household to play a very special role in my 2010 Regional Councillor Campaign. I want you by my side in our effort to shape our community's future for the next 4 years and beyond. I want and need your support, because like you, I know we require strong leadership at Regional Council.

The challenges facing our community are large but not insurmountable. In an era where Canadian households are spending more of their disposable income on the costs of home ownership than ever before it is vitally important to keep any property tax increases to a minimum. We must be fiscally prudent but also wise enough to make strategic investments in our community.

Traffic and traffic congestion is a huge concern that slows down the movement of goods in the economy and negatively impacts the quality of life for area residents. Investments in new roads, roads repair and transit must continue. Waterloo also needs a link to the 401 on the west side and a new Highway 7 on the East side.

I support the concept of the Light Rapid Transit initiative but am not prepared to hike taxes 9% in one year to get the project started. If re-elected council will need to explore several options to get the cost down. We will explore whether to change the technology to bus rapid transit, reduce the scope of the LRT, and review other funding options including greater support from the federal and provincial governments. I cannot support the current plan due to its heavy burden on local taxpayers but remain open to more affordable options.

It has been an honour an privilege to serve the City of Waterloo as an elected municipal official since 1994. With your support I would be honoured to serve for another four year term.

I believe in the following issues. If you agree with me on at least 1 of these 3 issues, please return this survey by fax 519.885.7663, phone 519.725.4640, or visit my website at www.seanstrickland.com.
